Photography Quotes

Sun Nov 1, 2009, 5:32 PM
Just some things I found inspirational. Also going to photography a baptism Sunday. Hopefully my Muse will return.

If the man who paints only the tree, or flower, or other surface he sees before him were an artist, the king of artists would be the photographer. It is for the artist to do something beyond this.
James Mcneill Whistler

We try to grab pieces of our lives as they speed past us. Photographs freeze those pieces and help us remember how we were. We don't know these lost people but if you look around, you'll find someone just like them.
Gene McSweeney

Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.
Henri Cartier Bresson

No matter how advanced your camera you still need to be responsible for getting it to the right place at the right time and pointing it in the right direction to get the photo you want.
Ken Rockwell

Unlike any other visual image, a photograph is not a rendering, an imitation or an interpretation of its subject, but actually a trace of it. No painting or drawing, however naturalist, belongs to its subject in the way that a photograph does.
John Berger

I love the medium of photography, for with its unique realism it gives me the power to go beyond conventional ways of seeing and understanding and say, "This is real, too."
Wynn Bullock

Photography, fortunately, to me has not only been a profession but also a contact between people - to understand human nature and record, if possible, the best in each individual.
Nickolas Muray

It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter, because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the ordinary.
David Bailey

Though many painters and sculptors talk glibly of "going in for photography," you will find that very few of them can ever make a picture by photography; they lack the science, technical knowledge, and above all the practice. Most people think they can play tennis, shoot, write novels, and photograph as well as any other person -- until they try. --Emerson

I want to reproduce the objects as they are, or as they would be even if I did not exist. --Taine

The realists do not take the photograph for a "copy" of reality, but for an emanation of past reality, a magic, not an art. -Barthes

..I felt that photography ought to start with and remain faithful to the appearance of the world, and in so doing record contradictions. The greatest pictures would then... find wholeness in the torn world. -- Robert Adams

Just felt inspired for the first time in a while..then burned my fingers with falling cigarette ash...gotta love how my life balances itself out lol.

I Feel So Lost

Thu Oct 22, 2009, 11:40 PM
Yes..i graduated college...broke up with my fiance' got a new boyfriend...who was a boyfriend from 4 years ago for a week...and i havent really done any photography since thesis. I feel so lost. Was the point of art school to kill all the passion i had for photography. Barely a single positive thing said to me about my work the entire time. Everytime i even look at my camera i have this since of lost hope..dreams smashed..regret. Possibly from school..or from my parents rushing me to find ANY full time job. Where was the class i needed to take for the "what now" part of life after college. Open a studio "they" say...yes sounds easy..but when you have no money its kinda impossible....i want to get back to why i started taking photographs in the first place..the simple job of capturing the essence of a human soul on film..or digital..which ever...i just feel so LOST!

Mon Apr 27, 2009, 8:21 AM
So i'm officially done with thesis atleast.
I have another book to make which excites me because all the poetry that i write that ya'll love also is being made into a book with pinhole images as illustrations. Its for one of the other classes i'm taking this semester. and its due...oh This Thursday so i still have much to do.
Also somewhere along the way a class got shoved to the side and now i'm having to take it in the summer. BUT...on June 29th..i'll officially be DONE....and its kind of scares me to think that i will have finally made it through college. so anyway...i'm trying to upload new things and what not since i've been gone for a while hope you like them!

Love you guys
